Bernice Hewson, founder of Raising Racial Consciousness, is on a mission to disrupt our common-sense mode of thinking in pursuit of a racially equitable society.
As an accredited coach (European Mentoring and Coaching Council) and emotional intelligence practitioner with a Psychosocial MA in ‘Race’, Empire and Post coloniality, Bernice adopts an integrated approach to anti-racism work that operates with hearts and minds to drive change.
With over 15 years experience in Corporate Leadership roles Bernice recognises the challenge facing leaders to deliver meaningful diversity and inclusion strategies. She is unequivocal about the fact that any diversity and inclusion work must start with the individual. To drive meaningful change, requires a racially conscious leader that has the knowledge and language to do so.
Enabling leaders and coaches to develop race-consciousness as a key competency. Bernice is keen to equip practitioners with the knowledge, language and confidence to support diversity and inclusion conversations in the workplace in a drive for racial equity.
Providing a safe space for learning, critical reflection and growth, Bernice empowers leaders and coach practitioners to find their voice.
“‘It’s not my ethnicity that qualifies me to do this work. We need to break the myth that if you are racialised as non-white, you understand race and racism and are somehow qualified to fix it.
